Religions Teach Very Smart Form of Selfishness
Freedom means competition. Destroying freedom will hurt the competitive more than the uncompetitive. Hence, we can naturally expect that the uncompetitive people, the poor dumb males, and the ugly dumb females, will be more likely to embrace religions that oppose free sex. Hence, by opposing free sex, those people will hurt the competitive others rather than themselves.
Because the competitive are typically unbelievers and the uncompetitive are typically the believers, opposition to free sex hurt unbelievers more than believers providing gene pool survival edge for the believers.
So, it’s natural that religions promote Darwinian smartness and selfishness. And that’s why many people embrace religions.
In general, religions teach people right and wrong. So I can state more plainly, religions teach some form of algorithm that people will use to judge right from wrong.
That means some people will be blamed and hurt by the algorithm, and by extension, the religion. Some others will be praised and profited by the same religions. So religions can have very mutually beneficial relationship with some people. We will then expect that those who are profited by the religions will embrace the religions.
