Religions Teach Very Smart Form of Selfishness
It doesn’t work in individualist countries that respect individual freedom like British, Europe, US, Japan, and Hong Kong. In those countries, the stupid pay for his stupidity and the smart enjoy their own smartness. Hence, it doesn’t make sense to be stupid. That explains why religions and other stupidity are declining in all those advance countries.
Imagine the most Darwinian stupid thing to do: celibacy. It’s stupid to impose it upon ones’ self. This doesn’t work well in individualist country. In individualist country, those embracing celibacy will went extinct.
However, in a country with less respect of individual freedom, a sultan can very profitably embrace the doctrines of celibacy, suicidal war, and many others.
What I mean by embracing here means differently depending on the actor. For the Sultan, embracing means advocating. For the rest it means following. But they all share the same traits: promoting.
