Why Moral Issues Become Porn Issues
Many people want to prohibit porn and prostitution. Some do so to protect religions and morality.
We can only wonder. Stealing and robbing are also immoral. Religions also prohibit stealing. Why there are no terrorist that commit suicide bombing to kill thieves, burglars, and robbers.
In Indonesia, there are Muslim groups that go “sweeping” to billiard stores, to cafes, etc. They do not go sweeping harassing thieves or burglars’ den. None of them ever wage demonstration condemning rape. Muslim religions demand only 2% tax. None of that religious fundamentalists wages large scale demonstration to demand tax reduction.
Some demand legalization of polygamy, which I partially agree, but that’s as far as religious fundamentalists go in promoting freedom.
In Bali, there is a bomb killing a lot of tourists. Why the terrorists don’t go to jail, ask to meet thieves, burglars, and robbers, and blow themselves up there? Why they kill tourists? Why not thieves?
The bible explicitly prohibits stealing, far more than porn. Yet Christians demand prosecution of porn stars and forgiveness for thieves.
If they want to uphold morality, why they don’t do kill thieves?
I’ve heard Muhammad once told a merchant to fight and kill robbers that try to steal his goods even to the death. He said that if you died protecting your property from robbers, you die syahid. Sometimes, I must admit that I like some of his ideas but not others.
Why is it when we talk about morality it goes to porn? Why is it when we talk about religions it’s mainly about prohibition of free sex?
Perhaps, the answer is not in scientific realm where objectivity, scientific evidences, and impartiality are the keys. Perhaps, the answer is in political realms, where motives and political interests govern opinions and beliefs irrelevant of facts.
